width: 600px; height: 199px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/76f3685e-4202-c8ae-735f-02ac7d3e4bae.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"199\" data-file-id=\"3042273\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The Deficiency Verbiage<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 45px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/1cb8dccb-61b3-8c4c-0c5d-5cfdbb344e0a.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"45\" data-file-id=\"3042274\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Please note the \u201cOR\u201d in yellow!\u00a0 What HUD means by this is that they do <u>NOT<\/u> require all fire doors to have self-closers on them \u2013 this is primarily due to the fact that many of HUD\u2019s properties are older and\/or they are exempt due to various building codes.\u00a0 <strong>However, if there is <em><u>any<\/u><\/em> evidence that a self-closer used to be there, then it is considered missing and will be cited.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The only way not to be required to reinstall it would be to get a letter from the Fire Marshall or local Building Official permitting the removal and subsequent repair on the holes.\u00a0 This letter will have to be uploaded as your defect mitigation and will be your grounds for appeal when Fire Door deficiencies become scoring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 237px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/e49b7d02-c6b0-80a2-8014-9c05885e7c52.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"237\" data-file-id=\"3042276\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Testing the Fire Door Closer<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nWe used to give fire doors 3 tries to latch.\u00a0 Under NSPIRE, HUD states to \u201copen the door fully and release\u201d and to pull back on the handle to make sure the latch is engaged. \u00a0In other words, you get one shot!<\/p>\n<p>Opening a window or sliding glass door in a unit is considered cheating \u2013 the doors should function with or without other doors\/windows being open or closed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px;
