Safety under NSPIRE.\u00a0 The good news is that this LT deficiency would score once for all Exit Signs on the Outside and just once per building for the Inside (Common Areas).<\/p>\n<p>First &#8211; a quick update to my <a href=\"https:\/\/c4n6.com\/site\/blog-post\/hud-nspire-september-newsletter-deficiencies-that-start-scoring-october-1st\/\">September Newsletter<\/a> about deficiencies that were supposed to start scoring Oct 1, 2024.\u00a0 HUD is STILL not scoring those items listed and are discussing postponing the scoring until October 1, 2025 \u2013 but <strong>until they decide, they will remain non-scoring<\/strong>.<br \/>\nHUD states they will post their decision here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/program_offices\/public_indian_housing\/reac\/nspire\/notices\">NSPIRE Official Announcements<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What Kind of Exit Signs can be installed?<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 81px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/dc2d32bc-ba90-af97-b10d-ba7e5ab07194.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"81\" data-file-id=\"3033779\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/sites\/dfiles\/PIH\/documents\/NSPIRE-Standard-Exit-Sign_20230620.pdf\">Exit Sign Standard<\/a> specifically mentions them in the definition as well as a component:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 193px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/7659ab9e-8a1f-e5c1-0074-76b726924de3.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"193\" data-file-id=\"3033774\" \/><\/p>\n<p>HUD also states they must be \u201cadequately illuminated,\u201d but do not mention what exactly would be considered \u201cadequate.\u201d\u00a0 Unfortunately, this fact leaves the deficiency criteria extremely subjective.<\/p>\n<p>When in doubt\u2026fall back on Code and <u>you can never go wrong<\/u>!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 359px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/96e88569-ec3f-d971-1ef1-11389b866bba.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"359\" data-file-id=\"3033776\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This website delves into photoluminescent exit signs much deeper than this Newsletter does: <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.qrfs.com\/326-are-photoluminescent-exit-and-egress-signs-osha-compliant\/\">https:\/\/blog.qrfs.com\/326-are-photoluminescent-exit-and-egress-signs-osha-compliant\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are many different types of exit signs \u2013 you\u2019ll need to find the ones that best suit your property.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, code requires they stay illuminated at least 90 minutes during a situation of main power loss.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>When I push the test button, do you want the Exit Sign to go dark?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No!!!<\/p>\n<p>By pushing the test button, you are cutting the exit sign off from the main power supply and are checking the back-up battery.\u00a0 You want the sign to stay lit up while depressing the test button.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to hook up the battery when you install new Exit Signs!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px;
