{"id":6371,"date":"2024-06-20T17:23:10","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T17:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/c4n6.com\/site\/?post_type=blog_post&#038;p=6371"},"modified":"2024-06-20T17:31:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T17:31:32","slug":"hud-nspire-june-newsletter-4-major-announcements-by-hud-for-nspire-nspire-v","status":"publish","type":"blog_post","link":"https:\/\/c4n6.com\/site\/blog-post\/hud-nspire-june-newsletter-4-major-announcements-by-hud-for-nspire-nspire-v\/","title":{"rendered":"HUD NSPIRE June Newsletter: 4 Major Announcements by HUD for NSPIRE &#038; NSPIRE-V"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>June\u2019s Newsletter discusses 4 major announcements HUD has recently made!<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANNOUNCEMENT <\/strong><strong>#1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NSPIRE-V compliance has been extended another year \u2013 until October 1, 2025!<\/p>\n<p>The official notice as well as an announcement in the Federal Register is forthcoming, however you can read the email sent by Richard J Monocchio, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nahro.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/NSPIRE-V-extended-until-2025-email-from-HUD.pdf\">NSPIRE-V Compliance Date Extended to 10\/01\/25<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is, however, 1 error in the email which will reportedly be corrected before it is published in the Federal Register.\u00a0 The error is the compliance date \u2013 it should read December 29<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024. <strong>This is applicable to Multifamily as well, of course<\/strong> \u2013 the email only directs PHAs because the letter\u2019s focus is the Voucher programs.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 124px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/0000e41b-f433-1808-165c-2240338c9df8.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"124\" data-file-id=\"2935413\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>ANNOUNCEMENT <\/strong><strong>#2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HUD has put in writing (finally) that hardwired smoke alarms will NOT be required to have a back-up battery.\u00a0 However, it\u2019s a REALLY good idea to have one because if there is a power outage, it will not work.\u00a0 Additionally, one of the first things the fire department does when there is a fire is to shut off the power\u2026thus with no back-up battery on hardwired smoke alarms, the smoke alarms would not work!<br \/>\nBattery-operated smoke alarms will have the following requirements ENFORCED by December 29<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>10-year, non-rechargeable, nonreplaceable primary batteries<\/li>\n<li>Batteries must be sealed, tamper resistant and contain a way to silence\/hush<\/li>\n<li>Most provide notification for persons with hearing loss as required by NFPA 72<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Unfortunately, #3 above is obviously vague\u2026and the code isn\u2019t much better:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px; width: 600px; height: 490px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/09ba5c1c1015b2f3c02e52ae8\/images\/444bbc80-ed3c-d0ee-2449-ae903457bf6b.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"490\" data-file-id=\"2935429\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The best advice I can give is to contact your local Fire Marshall and ask what your local requirements are based on the type of building and occupancy you have!<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANNOUNCEMENT <\/strong><strong>#3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you\u2019re reading the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/program_offices\/public_indian_housing\/reac\/nspire\/standards\">NSPIRE Standards<\/a>, <strong>WORDS MATTER<\/strong>!!!
